NCAATG Members receive National Awards

Congratulations to Burkhard Henke and Marilyn Metzler!!

Burkhard Henke, Professor of German and E. Craig Wall, Jr. Professor of Humanities at Davidson College, has been selected as one of the 2012 recipient of the AATG/Goethe-Institut Certificate of Merit for outstanding achievement in furthering the teaching of German in schools of the United States. This award is presented annually to a select group of educators in the field of German. Professor Henke stands out as an educator, who supports his fellow professional colleagues by offering valuable professional development through the Davidson Summer Institute for German Teachers. Marilyn Metzler has been selected as the 2012 AATG 9-12 Outstanding German Educator. This prestigious award is given annually in recognition of innovative teaching, extraordinary talent, and exceptional leadership in the German teaching profession. A teach for 34 years and newly retired from Chapel Hill High School, Marilyn continues to be an active member of the NCAATG and will participate in the 2012 Deutsches Wochenende for which she was a founding organizer. As recipient of the Outstanding German Educator award, she will receive the Friedrich Gerstäcker Travel Grant, sponsored by the Checkpoint Charlie Foundation. Wir gratulieren ihr!
